CACC Weekly Honors Go To Championship Winners

Philadelphia, PA- Four PhilaU student-athletes were honored by the CACC this week after turning in championship-caliber performances.

Women's lacrosse freshman midfielder Caribeth Shappell (Lancaster, PA/ Cocalico) earned ‘Player of the Week' after helping her team to an 11-9 upset of #1 seeded Georgian Court in the CACC Championship game.  She was named Tournament MVP with three goals in that contest to go along with one assist.  Her teammate, fellow rookie Taylor Peltzer (Holland, PA/ Archbishop Wood) garnered weekly ‘Honorable Mention' after chipping in three goals in the victory and earning ‘All-Tournament Team'.

Men's tennis rookie Adrian Torroella-Cruz (Gainesville, FL/ Gainesville) also took ‘Player of the Week' after winning every championship he could- Team, Singles and Doubles at the CACC Men's Tennis Championship.  He was named both ‘Player of the Year' and ‘Rookie of the Year'.  Freshman teammate Manoli Sgouros (Forest Hills, NY/ Holy Cross) earned weekly ‘Honorable Mention' after advancing to the CACC Singles Championship before falling to Torroella-Cruz and winning the doubles with him.  Both were named to the All-Conference team.
