Philadelphia, PA- Philadelphia University has announced a three-year agreement with Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center (AAYTC) that gives student-athletes, students, faculty and staff a combined 1,600 hours of indoor/outdoor court time at one of the country’s most comprehensive indoor tennis facilities.

The facility is less than one mile from campus.  This is the third local organization PhilaU has partnered with to provide Ram student-athletes the best facilities possible.

“Philadelphia University’s commitment to creating value through innovation includes our unique relationships with community sporting venues,” said PhilaU President Stephen Spinelli Jr., Ph.D.  This includes Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education, the Hines Rowing Center (men’s & women’s rowing) and The ACE Club (golf).  All of these facilities provide a world-class athletics infrastructure for our students.”

Signage depicting the relationship between PhilaU and AAYTC will soon be erected at the AAYTC entrance on Ridge Avenue and also along Lincoln Drive pending city approval.

“The situation is win-win for both PhilaU and Arthur Ashe,” said PhilaU Athletic Director Tom Shirley, who spearheaded the project. “

The agreement further strengthens the Athletic Department’s relationship with AAYTC.  AAYTC already provides indoor court time for men’s and women’s tennis student-athletes through an agreement with Head Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach Cha Goods (who also works at AAYTC as Coach and Program Manager for Junior Advanced Clinic).  The facility has 16 total courts (eight indoor and eight outdoor).
