This Week in Ram Athletics: Feb. 27-March 4

Men’s Basketball

Last Week: Philadelphia (19-8) opened its CACC Tournament with a 74-52 victory over Post University on Saturday. The Rams ended the regular season on Feb. 21 with a 65-62 win at Holy Family. Guard Jim Connolly hit a three-pointer, his ninth of the game, with 0.8 left to defeat the Tigers.

This Week: The Rams head to Caldwell for a CACC Tournament semifinal round match-up with Bloomfield College on Friday, March 2 at noon. If Philadelphia is victorious, it will play in the championship game Saturday, March 3 at 4 p.m. at Caldwell.

Need to Know: The Rams were 85-66 winners over the Deacons in their only regular season meeting on Jan. 21 in Philadelphia. Bloomfield is currently fifth in the NCAA East Region Rankings, while Philadelphia is 10th.

Women’s Basketball

Last Week: The Lady Rams (20-9) had their season come to an end with a 62-42 loss to host Caldwell in the opening round of the CACC Tournament on Feb. 25. Philadelphia closed out the regular season four days earlier with a 78-49 loss at Holy Family.

Need to Know: Center Christine Wooding finishes her career in 10th place on the Philadelphia University all-time scoring list with 1,304 points. She is second in career blocks (180) and eighth in career rebounds (749). Guard Stephanie Agger will leave Philadelphia 27th in career points (1,078), third in career steals (223) and sixth in career assists (400).


Last Week: The Rams went 1-2 in their opening series at Dowling to start the 2012 season. After being swept on Saturday (8-2 and 10-4), David Lerro threw six strong innings to help the Rams defeat the Golden Lions 4-2 on Sunday.

This Week: Philadelphia travels to Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J. for a pair of double-headers against Southern Connecticut State on March 3 and 4. Both twin-bills start at noon.

Need to Know: The Rams’ next five games will be against teams that went to the 2011 NCAA Division II World Series (Southern Connecticut, Millersville).

Men’s Tennis

Last Week: Philadelphia (2-4) split a pair of matches to begin its spring slate. The Rams were swept 9-0 on Saturday against the University of the District of Columbia. One day later Philadelphia knocked off Adelphi, 7-2.

This Week: The Rams host NYIT on Sunday, March 4 at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

Need to Know: With his win on Sunday, Manoli Sgouros became the eighth Philadelphia University tennis player, third male, to win 100 career dual matches.

Women’s Tennis

Last Week: Philadelphia (7-6) was swept by visiting Adelphi 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.

This Week: The Lady Rams welcome NYIT to the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center for a non-conference match on Sunday, March 4.
