NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Philadelphia University had 23 student-athletes earn a place on the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Spring All-Academic Team that was released by the conference office Friday.
The softball team led the way for the Rams with eight student-athletes on the All-Academic team. Women's lacrosse and women's track recorded four honorees each.
Golf had three student-athletes on the squad—including CACC Top XV Award winner Nicholas Nguyen).
Baseball placed two on the team, while men's track and men's tennis had one honoree each.
Of the 23 honorees, five are on the Spring All-Academic Team for the third time: softball's Mollie Burrell, Renee Kakareka, and Kasia Smith; golf's Dan Carpenter; and women's track's Emilie Barton. Softball's Gianna Bliss, Gabrielle Brown, Megan Letos, and Shannon Weaver and women's lacrosse's Alyssa Matthews and Liz Mower are all two-time honorees.
In order to be named to the CACC Spring All-Academic team, an athlete must have participated in a CACC Championship sport in the spring. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, and achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
Philadelphia University finished the 2015-16 academic year with 56 student-athletes earning a place on a CACC All-Academic Team.
