PhilaU women lead CACC Restaino Cup standings, men up to second

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Philadelphia University men's and women's teams have made big jumps in the 2016-17 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Restaino Cup standings that were released on Tuesday. The Ram women have taken over the top spot, while the men have moved into second place.

Sitting in second place after the fall season, the Philadelphia University women took over first place thanks to the women's basketball team. Women's basketball garnered 9.5 points after finishing fourth in the southern division and reaching the CACC Tournament.

Philadelphia is atop the standings with an average score of 11.5 points. The women have championships in cross country and volleyball and qualified for all four conference tournaments.  Caldwell University is in second place with 11.1 points, while Georgian Court University—the leader after the fall—and the University of the Sciences are third with 10.75 points.

A strong men's basketball season allowed the Philadelphia men to go from fourth to second in the standings. The team won the southern division championship and reached CACC Tournament semifinals to give the men 12.75 points.

The Ram men have an average of 10.58 points through the winter season. Wilmington (Del.) University remains in first place with 12.08 points.

The Restaino Cup is an annual award given to the CACC men's and women's athletic programs that perform the best across the board in conference competition. The point system used for the award takes into account each team's finish in both the CACC regular-season and conference tournament. Each school receives a combined point total, and that total is divided by the number of sports that the institution sponsors.
