Patrick Shatkus Named Director of Athletic Communications at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA – Assistant Vice President of Athletics and Head Women's Basketball Coach Tom Shirley announced the hiring of Patrick Shatkus as the new Director of Athletic Communications at Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University).

"We are excited to have Patrick join our staff," said Shirley. "My colleagues at Drexel University have offered nothing but the highest praise for Patrick's work. We feel he is the perfect candidate to help us with the merger of the university." 

Shatkus will be responsible for the day-to-day duties of Jefferson's athletic communication office including promotion and media relations efforts for the Rams' 17 intercollegiate sports, the athletic website, publications and social media.

"I would like to thank Coach Shirley and Jefferson for this incredible opportunity to become the new Director of Athletic Communications," said Shatkus. "I look forward to sharing the stories of the Jefferson student-athletes, coaches and athletic department."

A native of southern California, Shatkus has spent the last three years in Philadelphia.

He most recently worked in the athletic communications office at Drexel over a two-year stay. Prior to Drexel, he worked in offices at Villanova University and Georgetown University.

In addition, he has worked various NCAA events including annually for the media coordination team at the NCAA DI Men's College World Series since 2012, two NCAA Men's Basketball Regionals and the 2016 NCAA DI/II/III Men's Lacrosse Championship.

While in college, Shatkus also worked two seasons in public relations for the now-defunct United Football League Omaha Nighthawks and one season in minor league baseball with the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
He earned his master's degree in 2014 from Georgetown in sports industry management while working as a graduate assistant in the sports information office.

He graduated from Creighton University in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in English and theology. While at Creighton, he worked athletic events for the school's sports information office during his senior year.
Born and raised in Santa Clarita, Calif., he currently resides in Philadelphia, Pa.
