As a former "Hall of Fame" athlete himself (at Penn), Goldblatt initiated the same attitude at Philadelphia "Textile" University by creating a men's basketball team in response to student interest. He coached the men’s basketball team from 1949-53. He managed to assemble eight or nine players per game and competed against JV Colleges and Industrial League games, which was the start of the first intercollegiate sport program. In 1947, he became the Director of Athletics for Philadelphia “Textile” University. In 1952, with a bonafide schedule, Menchy's team produced the first winning season, 12-6.
