Walter Chyzowych built the Philadelphia University men's soccer team into a perennial NCAA Tournament team during his 10 years (1961-63, 1966-75) as the head coach.
Chyzowych, who also was a tennis coach and a physical education teacher, led the Rams to an overall record of 122-37-14 and five NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to the quarterfinals. Ten different players earned All-America status during his tenure.
The Philadelphia University leader in career wins, Chyzowych, who was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coach of the Year in 1975, went on to coach the United States men's national soccer team during the qualification rounds of the 1978 and 1982 World Cups.
Chyzowych was inducted into the NSCAA and the U.S. Soccer Halls of Fame.
