NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Philadelphia University
Lady Rams (6-4, 2-1 CACC) earned a 73-66 road win over Wilmington
University (6-5, 1-2 CACC) on Tuesday afternoon at Pratt
Gymnasium. The Lady Rams were led by senior guard
Amanda Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) with 17
points, including four three-pointers.
The Wildcats opened the conference match-up on a 9-2 run, but
the Lady Rams rallied with a 10-0 surge of their own to take a 12-9
lead early on with a clutch trey from freshman Deanna
Kelly (Lafayette Hill, PA/ Archbishop Carroll) at 15:48
remaining.
Two made free throws by WU's Jillian Bennett would cut the
PhilaU lead to just one at 13:45 remaining in the first stanza, but
that would be as close as the Wildcats could get. Bennett
finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds for WU.
Philadelphia went into the break up 39-31.
The Lady Rams held the lead for the entire second half,
including a nine point advantage- their largest of the
contest. WU rallied to within in three at 61-58 with 6:10
left, but junior center Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/
Hatboro-Horsham) nailed a jumper and subsequent free-throw to give
the maroon and gray a comfortable lead. Romano finished with
13 points, seven boards and four assists.
PhilaU went 4-4 at the charity stripe in the final minute-
helped by sophomore guard Stephanie Agger (N. Cape
May, NJ/ Lower Cape May) and junior guard Nina
Brascetta (Philadelphia, PA/ Archbishop Ryan) to hold onto
a 73-66 victory. Agger finished with 15 points, while
Brascetta 10 for the Lady Rams.
PhilaU finished the afternoon shooting 46.8% from the floor and
43.8% from beyond the arc.
The Lady Rams will take a holiday break before playing their
final December game at home on Tuesday, December 30th at
1 p.m. vs. Millersville University.
