Bloomfield, NJ- The Philadelphia University
Lady Rams (2-3, 0-0 CACC) fell 62-60 at the buzzer in a
non-conference match-up against the Bloomfield College Deacons
(2-4, 0-0 CACC) on Thursday evening. Senior forward
Amanda Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) led all
scorers with 21 points and five rebounds.
The Lady Rams were slow to start, as the Deacons went on an 11-0
run in the first six minutes of play. BC would lead by as
many as 17 points in the first stanza, but A. Brennan nailed a
three-pointer with 4:27 in the first half to cut the lead to just
six.
At the half the Deacons were up 36-26, helped by Tiffany
McDaniel's 12 points.
The Deacons opened up the second half on a 12-0 spurt,
eventually building a 24 point lead- but the Lady Rams
rallied.
Sophomore guard Stephanie Agger (N. Cape May,
NJ/ Lower Cape May) chipped in a jumper at 15:53 to cut the lead to
20- she finished the night with 15 points, five steals and four
rebounds.
Free-throw shooting proved to be clutch for PhilaU, as junior
center Jess Romano went 4-4 at the charity stripe
within 30 seconds to make it 56-43 with less than 10 minutes in
regulation. Romano finished with the Lady Ram's only
double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds).
PhilaU continued to chip away at the Deacon's lead as junior
guard Nina Brascetta (Philadelphia, PA/ Archbishop
Ryan) sunk a three at 6:47 to make it a 10 point game.
A. Brennan was fouled while taking a three-pointer at 1:05 to
put PhilaU within one and Agger tied it 60-60 with a made
free-throw.
With two seconds remaining, BC's Jaleesa Coleman emerged out of
a tussle with the ball and the ensuing lay-up would be the Deacon's
game-winner at the buzzer.
The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, December
6th at Felician College at 1:00 pm for their CACC
opener.
