Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) had a
team-high 19 points and added 13 rebounds en route to a 68-61 win
for Philadelphia University (7-5, 2-1 CACC) over the Adelphi
University Panthers (6-6, 3-0 ECC) on Tuesday night.
Adelphi was led by Ashley Caiafa with 24 points and nine
rebounds.
The Lady Rams were down by six at 10:02 in the first half, but
sophomore guard Ashley Gaskins (Harrisburg, PA/
Central Dauphin) highlighted an 8-0 PhilaU run with a jumper at
6:26 to take a 23-21 lead. AU came right back to regain the
lead with a trey at 3:19 remaining and the Panthers took a 31-27
lead into the break.
Senior guard Amanda Brennan (Sterling, NJ/
Stratford) scored 16 points on the night, including five made
three's and sophomore guard Steph Agger (N. Cape
May, NJ/ Lower Cape May) had 10 scores for the PhilaU. The
Lady Rams shot 44% from the field to Adelphi's 42%.
The Panthers continued to stay ahead in the second period and
led by as many as seven points, but a steal and made layup by
PhilaU junior guard Nina Brascetta (Philadelphia,
PA/ Archbishop Ryan) gave PhilaU a 45-44 lead with 11:02 remaining.
At 5:50 left in the second stanza, AU's Danielle Parks closed
the PhilaU lead to just two with a layup to make it 53-51, and
solid free-throw shooting down the stretch kept the Panthers within
striking distance. However, PhilaU pulled out the 68-61
non-conference victory.
The Lady Rams will travel to the University of the Sciences on
Thursday, January 8th for a 6:00 p.m. match-up.
