Philadelphia, PA- The PhilaU women's basketball team continued
it's undefeated run through conference play getting a 69-68 victory
over the Wilmington University Lady Wildcats. Senior forward
Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) led the
Lady Rams with 23 points, three rebounds and one assist.
The Lady Rams shot 48% from the field while Wilmington was held
to 42 %.
Sophomore forward Christine Wooding
(Northfield, NJ/ Mainland Regional) added 13 points, seven rebounds
and one assist on the night.
The Lady Rams would go into halftime holding a 38-28 lead
against the Lady Wildcats, but that would soon vanish after the
visitors came out hustling. The visiting team would chip away
until the 10:35 mark a lay-up would give them their first lead at
50-49 and a lay-up by Wilmington senior guard Amelia Simmons
(Wilmington, DE/ Concord) would make the lead stretch to
three. Simmons led all scorers with 32 points, 10 rebounds
and two steals.
The PhilaU women would find themselves down for the remainder of
the half until 3:17 left- when junior forward
Ashley Gaskins (Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin)
converted on an one and one giving the Lady Rams a 65-64
lead. Gaskins would finish with three points and eight
rebounds.
The game would continue to go back-and-forth until with 25
seconds left as senior center Jessica Romano
(Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) would find herself at the free-throw
line, the game tied at 68-68. Romano would miss the first but
sink the second one giving the women a one-point lead. Romano
finished the night with a double-double scoring 13 points and
10 rebounds.
The Wildcats would get a last second opportunity at a lay-up but
would fail to convert it- giving the Lady Rams the victory.
The Lady Rams will be back in action on Sunday (12/20) at 2:00
PM when non-conference foe St. Michael's come into town.
