Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
women's basketball team (15-8, 10-4 CACC) had their three-game
winning streak broken up in a close 53-49 home loss to cross-town
rival the University of the Sciences (12-10, 9-5 CACC) on Thursday
night.
The Lady Ram's were out-shot (44%-33%) and outrebounded (33-26),
but turned the ball over less 10-17 than USP in the contest.
In a game that saw 12 lead changes, the Lady Rams fell behind
10-7 early, but went on a run to pull ahead by six at the half
(28-22) on a trey by senior guard Amanda Brennan
(Stratford, NJ/ Sterling). Brennan finished the night with a
team-high 13 points.
USP took a 32-31 lead at 15:07 remaining in the second half, but
two lay-ups by sophomore guard Stephanie Agger (N.
Cape May, NJ/ Lower Cape May) in a two minute span gave PhilaU a
38-37 lead. Agger had 10 points and three assists on the
night.
Junior center Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/
Hatboro-Horsham) sunk two free-throws at 4:50 to give the maroon
and gray their final lead of the night 44-43, as USP closed out the
match on a 10-5 run to take the 53-49 CACC win. Romano was
held under double-digits for only the second time this season,
netting eight points and eight boards.
The Lady Rams return to action for their final home regular
season game on Saturday (2/14) at 2 p.m. vs. Dominican. The
team will be participating in the 'Pink Zone' program during
the game and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast
cancer awareness.
