Softball Sweeps Lincoln 16-1, 15-4 in Non-Conference Action

Lincoln, PA- It took the Philadelphia University softball team (2-2) 29 hits and just 10 innings to pull-off two lopsided wins over Lincoln University (2-2) on Thursday afternoon.  The Lady Rams took game one 16-1, and finalized the sweep with a 15-4 win in the second contest.

Freshman pitcher Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD/ Easton) led the Lady Rams in the first game, getting 10 strikeouts in five complete innings pitched.  Offensively, PhilaU got three hits each from juniors Kelly Rauco (Nutley, NJ/ Nutley) and Kristin Giamatteo (Bellmore, NY/ Wellington Mepham).

The Lady Rams had a big first inning with seven runs scored on seven hits, and added four more scores in the second and third innings.  LU scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a walk.

In game two, Lincoln took an early 3-0 lead in the first on a two run single and another walk and added another score in the third.  PhilaU responded with five runs in each of the next three innings, keyed by sophomore Kate Desmond (Bayport, NY/ St. John the Baptist) and freshman Allison Glaser's (Easton, PA/ Notre Dame-Green Pond) two-run doubles to take a commanding 15-4 lead that would be all the scoring for the day.

PhilaU pitcher Rauco got the win in the circle with five strikeouts in five innings.  The Lady Rams will head south as they face Southern Connecticut twice and Merrimack once on Sunday, March 15th in Florida.
