Fifth Straight Win as Women's Hoops Downs KU 74-70

Kutztown, PA-  Philadelphia University women's basketball (6-3, 2-1 CACC) picked up it's fifth-straight win in a 74-70 non-conference heart-stopper at Kutztown University's (5-3) Keystone Arena on Thursday afternoon.  Senior forward Kate Brennan led all scorers with 28 points, including five treys in addition to a team-high seven rebounds.

KU was led by Kristen Murray's 21 point effort.  The victory was number 598 for PhilaU Head Coach Tom Shirley.

Coming off a big win on Tuesday, the Rams seemed to carry their momentum into Keystone, shooting 46% from the floor (KU shot 35%) and an impressive 47% from beyond the arc-thanks to Brennan (KU shot 27%).

KU jumped out to an early 12-2 lead to start things off in the first half, upping the ante by as many as 11 until PhilaU senior guard Taylor Magnus (who had seven points in the contest) drained a jumper at 3:04 to give the Rams their first lead of the day at 32-31.  In the final ticks of that stanza, Brennan nailed a jumper to keep PhilaU up 36-34 at the break.

In the second half, Brennan hit one of her five treys at 9:22 to give PhilaU their largest lead of the game, 61-50.  KU mounted a 14-3 comeback to tie it at 64's with under four minutes remaining, but PhilaU junior forward Christine Wooding sank two free throws to give PhilaU back a lead they would not hand over.  Wooding scored 10 points on the day.

KU's Brittany Levan cut PhilaU's lead to two (64-62) with 37 seconds to go, but a Wooding layup and missed KU three-point attempt as the clock winded down gave PhilaU the win.  PhilaU junior guard Stephanie Agger added 12 in the effort.

Next up for the Rams will be a Thursday (1/6/11) home game vs. Georgian Court University at 4 p.m.
