Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University women's basketball team (2-3, 0-1 CACC) got a big 73-68 non-conference win over the visiting Bloomsburg University Huskies (4-1, 0-0 PSAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher Athletic Center. Senior forward Kate Brennan led all players with 23 points and 13 boards, a season-high.
Keys to the game were free-throw points (PhilaU 21-BU's 4) and rebounding (PhilaU's 39-BU's 28).
The loss was the first of the year for a young Bloomsburg team. PhilaU's Brennan opened the contest with her first of six treys at 19:41.
In the first half, PhilaU took their largest lead of the game at 8:58 on a jumper by junior forward Christine Wooding to go up 32-22. Wooding had 13 points and nine rebounds on the day.
At the half, the Rams led 39-32.
Sophomore forward Kristen Blye opened the second stanza up with a good jumper at 19:27, finishing with 15 points and nine boards. BU's Dana Wieller hit a trey at 5:44 to tie it at 63's, but PhilaU went on an 8-0 run to take the lead for good. Wieller led her squad with 18 points (four three-balls).
PhilaU will play on the road next, a Tuesday (12/7) date at CACC rival Chestnut Hill College at 6 p.m.
