Free-Throw Shooting Lifts Women's Basketball to 66-57 Win

Chestnut Hill, PA- The Philadelphia University women's basketball team (3-3, 1-1 CACC) picked up a 66-57 win at Chestnut Hill College (2-5, 0-1 CACC) on Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena.  The Rams were led by junior forward Christine Wooding with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Free-throws were the difference-maker in this one, as PhilaU scored 28 points to CHC's six at the charity stripe.

PhilaU began play on a 9-2 run, six of those points from Wooding.  PhilaU led for most of the first half, but CHC's leading scorer Lindsay Alexander spun in a layup with 30 seconds left to tie the game at 25 going into halftime.  Alexander had a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds.

A tight second half ensued, but CHC's Cecelia Herald gave the home team their final lead at 4:47 on a layup to put PhilaU down 54-53.  Wooding gave the Rams back the advantage for good with a jumper and sophomore forward Kristen Blye knocked down a bucket to make it 59-53 with 1:19 remaining.  Blye had 17 points and eight rebounds on the night.

The Rams went 7-10 at the charity stripe in the final minute, including two good shots from junior guard Stephanie Agger who tallied 10 points on the night to close the game out.

PhilaU senior guard Kate Brennan added 13 points and five rebounds to complete the PhilaU effort.  The Rams return to action on Sunday (12/19) at 1 p.m. vs. Wilmington University at Herb Magee Court.
