Caldwell, NJ- Senior forward Kate
Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) combined for a team-high
22 points but the Philadelphia University Lady Rams (10-10, 8-4
CACC) went down swinging 84-73 to the Caldwell College Cougars
(11-10, 7-7 CACC) on Sunday afternoon.
Brennan paced PhilaU to a 9-3 start in the first half, adding
six rebounds and four steals to her performance. Solid
free-throw shooting from the Lady Rams kept the visitors ahead, as
two made buckets by junior forward Ashley Gaskins
(Harrisburg, PA/ Central Dauphin) made it PhilaU 40, Caldwell 29 at
the half. Gaskins poured in 13 points, nine rebounds and two
steals on the day.
The Lady Rams lead surged to 17 points (48-31) at 17:33 in the
second half as freshman forward Taylor Peltzer
(Holland, PA/ Archbishop Wood) hit one of her two treys on the
contest, but Cougar standout Kirsty Leedham capped a 25-8 run with
a made three to tie it at 56-56 near the 10:00 point.
CC's Leedham led all scorers with 28 points and six
boards. PhilaU sophomore forward Christine
Wooding (Northfield, NJ/ Mainland) added 16 points and
five rebounds, respectively.
Another Leedham trey would give the Cougars the lead for good at
6:11, and 85% free-throw shooting from CC including Torey Jones-
who completed the contest with 18 points, seven boards and three
steals- doomed PhilaU as the maroon and gray fell 84-73.
Next up for the Lady Rams will be a Tuesday (2/9) contest at
home vs. Chestnut Hill College at 6 p.m.
