Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University Rams (12-1-1, 10-0 CACC) capitalized on a possession-oriented game plan to get up early and stay ahead in a 5-1 win over the visiting Molloy College Lions (7-6, 3-2 ECC) on Thursday night at Ravenhill Field.
The Rams got their first score in the 26th minute from rookie Carla Chmielewski, assisted by sophomore Nicole Van Bourgondien. Just four minutes later, junior Chelsea Riedell put another goal in, assisted by junior Melissa Copeland.
MC broke their stalemate with 12 minutes to go in the first on a shot by Allison Sloper, but PhilaU's Copeland added her own goal with five minutes remaining as the halftime score read PhilaU 3, MC 1.
In the second half, PhilaU rookie Christina Nasti scored her first collegiate goal 23 minutes into action to go up 4-1. PhilaU freshman Michaela Van Antwerp scored the final goal with a minute to go as the final ended PhilaU 5, MC 1.
In goal for PhilaU, junior Kelli Kowalewski go the start with five saves, while senior Rebecca Della Peruta came in for the final 22 minutes and collected one stop. MC's Tricia Zarro made nine saves.
PhilaU readies for another on Saturday (10/15) at Post University at 1 p.m.
