Lady Rams nipped by East Stroudsburg, 55-53

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Forwards Kristen Blye and Christine Wooding both recorded double-doubles, but the Philadelphia University women's basketball team fell to visiting East Stroudsburg, 55-53, in a non-conference game Friday evening at the Gallagher Center.

Wooding led the Lady Rams (8-4) with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double this year. Blye, who recorded her third double-double, had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Guard Taylor Peltzer was also in double-figures for Philadelphia with 10 points.

Cyara Woodridge and Jessica Martin had double-doubles for East Stroudsburg (4-6). Woodridge came up with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Martin contributed 12 points and a game-high 11 boards. Fayola Moise added 10 points.

The Lady Rams shot 35.3 percent (18-of-51) from the field and 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the free throw line. The Warriors connected on 35.9 percent (23-of-64) overall and 55.6 percent (5-of-9) from the stripe. East Stroudsburg outrebounded Philadelphia, 43-40.

Philadelphia opened the second half on an 11-4 run to extend its halftime lead to 40-24 with 15:56 to play. The Warriors answered with 23 of the game's next 26 points to take a 47-43 advantage at the 2:1e mark. Woodridge led the push with nine points, while Martin added six.

Trailing 52-46, Peltzer and guard Samantha Morris drained back-to-back three-pointers 11 seconds apart to tie the score with 31 seconds to play.

Moise connected on two free throws to give the Warriors a 54-52 lead. The teams traded one made free throw each to keep the gap at two (55-53). The Lady Rams last lay-up attempt bounced off the backboard as time expired.

Philadelphia owned a 23-9 lead in the opening half. Blye and Peltzer both scored six points in the run.

The Lady Rams begin 2012 against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Holy Family University Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Gallagher Center.
