Men's Tennis Claims Two Victories in Florida

Kissimmee, FL- The Philadelphia University Rams cleaned house in their first spring matches of 2011, picking up a 6-2 win over Tiffin University and then a close 5-4 victory over Stonehill College on Sunday afternoon. 

The Tiffin win marked Head Coach Lance Lee's first victories as a collegiate coach.

In the match vs. TU, the Rams secured a 3-0 lead from their doubles tandems heading into singles.  Junior #3 singles player Manoli Sgouros won a crisp 6-1, 6-1 victory over TU's Brian Coffman, and aided in a 8-3 victory at #1 singles with junior partner Adrian Torroella-Cruz.  Senior #6 singles player Seppi Hutter secured the win with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 'W' over Craig Martin. 

Against Stonehill, a regional opponent, the Rams first won the doubles battle with the teams at #1 (Sgouros/Torroella-Cruz) and #3 (Hutter/Tom McAvoy) winning.  With the Rams up 2-1 heading into singles, the match came down to the #5 position and PhilaU junior Eric Guerrero delivered a 6-4, 6-2 win over SC rookie Nicholas Hyzak to complete a 5-4 win for the Rams.

Next up is an 11:30 a.m. match vs. the University of Indianapolis on Monday (3/14).
