Rams fall to West Chester, 73-59

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the 2012-13 season after falling to host West Chester, 73-59, on the second day of the Carol Eckman Classic Sunday afternoon in Hollinger Fieldhouse.

Sophomore guards Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) each netted 16 points for Philadelphia (3-1). The 16 points for Schacker, which all came in the second half, is a career-high.

Freshman center Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) ripped down a game-high 17 rebounds.

Brittany Sicinski came off-the-bench to lead West Chester (2-0) with 12 points. Alex Lennon and Dallas Ely both added 11 points. Lennon also had 11 rebounds to complete a double-double.

After falling behind 5-0 early on, the Rams came back to take a 12-11 lead on a Jacobs lay-up with 8:40 left in the first half.

West Chester took control of the half with an 11-2 run, led by Lennon's four points, over the final 5:29 to take a 28-19 lead into the locker room.

Jacobs scored 11 points for Philadelphia in the first half on 4-of-6 shooting.

The Rams pulled within 28-24 on an Arnao lay-up and a Jacob's three-pointer to open the second half.

West Chester responded with 13 of the next 15 points to move in front 41-26 with 14:30 left. Philadelphia got as close as eight (67-59) thanks to a Schacker trey at the 1:57 mark.

West Chester shot 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the field and 83.3 percent (20-of-24) at the line. Philadelphia connected on 31.3 percent (20-of-64) of its field-goal attempts and was 57.1 (12-of-21) at the stripe.

The Golden Rams owned a 60-35 rebounding advantage, which led to a 17-1 second-chance points gap.

Philadelphia welcomes Millersville to the Gallagher Center for a non-conference match on Monday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m.
