PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team went 1-1 in a doubleheader it hosted on the Abraham J. Salaman Tennis Courts for Homecoming on Saturday.
The Lady Rams opened the day with a clean sweep against non-conference opponent Cheyney (0-1), 9-0. Philadelphia dropped the second match to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Concordia (N.Y.) (6-0, 6-0 CACC), 7-2.
After the Cheyney match, head coach Shawn Becker honored senior Alyssa Tullar, who won her No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0, in a brief ceremony. Tullar has played for three different teams at the University, including the final field hockey team fielded by the school in 2008.
Kaylee Fennern, Sayre Limburg, Olivia Amato, Elizabeth Verbits and Sylvia Bennicelli all won their respective singles matches, 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Rams won all of the doubles matches by 8-0 scores. The No. 1 team was Limburg and Fennern, Bennicelli and Verbits made up the No. 2 team, and the No. 3 tandem was Amato and Tullar.
Against the Clippers, Magill Kurts and Verbits were both 6-3, 6-2 winners in singles action. Kurts played in the No. 5 match, while Verbits was at No. 6.
After the twinbill the Lady Rams are now 6-5 overall and 2-4 in the CACC.
Philadelphia travels to Shippensburg for a non-conference match on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
