Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) scored a season-high 19 points in the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's 74-70 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to the University of the Sciences Wednesday night in bobby Morgan Arena.
Freshman forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood), who is ninth in Division II in rebounding, recorded 18 points and a team-high 15 rebounds to post her sixth double-double of the season.
Senior forward Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown E.) contributed 12 points and nine rebounds for the Rams (7-6, 4-3 CACC). Blye is now 58 points away from 1,000 in her career.
The Devils (7-8, 5-3 CACC) received 20 points and 16 rebounds, both game-highs, from Brianne Traub.
Jacobs connected on a lay-up with 10:14 left to give Philadelphia a game-high 12-point lead (59-47). USciences, led by eight points from Traub, outscored Philadelphia 14-2 over a 6:12 stretch to tie the score at 61.
With the score tied at 67, Jessica Slyvester drained two free throws to put USciences in front for the first time in the second half (69-67) with 1:14 to play.
Jacobs answered with a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Rams a 70-69 lead with a minute left.
Isabella Ross put the Devils back in front three seconds later with a lay-up. Traub sealed the game by hitting three of her four free throw attempts in the final 57 seconds.
Philadelphia played from behind for most of the first half. The Rams flipped the switch with six minutes left, going on a 16-4 run to take a 39-31 halftime lead. Jacobs scored seven of the 16 points.
The Rams shot 39.1 percent (25-of-64) from the field, 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from three-point range, and 85.7 percent (18-of-21) at the free throw line. The Devils hit 42.9 percent (27-of-63) of their shots, including 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from three, and 65.2 percent (15-of-23) of their free throws.
The two teams had identical rebounding numbers with 40 overall, including 13 on the offensive end.
Philadelphia returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 12 with a CACC contest at Chestnut Hill at 1 p.m.
