Reardigan lifts women's soccer to 2-1 win over Molloy

PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman forward Shannon Reardigan (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) scored the match-winning goal 4:37 into the second overtime session to give the Philadelphia University women's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime victory over Molloy in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Reardigan scored after getting sprung with a square ball from sophomore midfielder Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn./Shelton). After receiving the pass, Reardigan took a few touches and beat Nicole DellaPorta, who came out to challenge Reardigan, with a shot that went in the right side of the net for her first collegiate goal.

Ferro gave Philadelphia (3-7-1) a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute with a leaping header at the six-yard box on a crossing pass from freshman midfielder Morgan Graus (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton). Ferro has three goals this season, tying her with senior forward Janine Cascio (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and junior midfielder Michaela Van Antwerp (Andover, Mass./Andover) for the team lead.

Allison Sloper the tied match at one when she headed in a Melissa Comis crossing pass during the 61st minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) earned the win by making two saves, including a diving stop to deny Alicia Mercurio in the first overtime session and keep the match tied at one.

DellaPorta ended the day with five saves.

Philadelphia outshot Molloy (2-11-0), 17-8.

Philadelphia continues its five-match homestand with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest against Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday, Oct. 19 at noon. Before the match, the team will honors seniors Nicole Van Bourgondien (Southold, N.Y./Southold), Kristen Ferguson (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield), and Cascio.
