Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with visiting Mercy in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
After posting its second straight 0-0 tie, the Rams—who extend their unbeaten streak to four—are now 4-7-3 overall. It is the second time in school history that Philadelphia has recorded back-to-back scoreless. The first time that Rams had consecutive 0-0 games came on Sept. 11, 2003 and Sept. 13, 2003 against Kutztown and New Haven.
Philadelphia went 2-1-2 during its five-match home stand.
The first half of the match was a defensive standoff and the two teams had combined for just three shot attempts. Mercy (10-2-1) took both of their shots—one on goal—in the first 28:57. Philadelphia sophomore forward Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) pushed her right-footed shot off from 13 yards away to the left at the 3826 mark.
Philadelphia turned up the heat in the second half, attempting eight shots—three on target. Senior defender Nicole Van Bourgondien (Southold, N.Y./Southold) had the best chance to score in the second half. On a free kick from 25 yards out, Van Bourgondien unleashed a blast that got by the outstretched hands of Maverick keeper Nicole Augustine, but rang off the crossbar and bounced away.
The Rams outshot the Mavericks 6-1 in the overtime sessions, but none of them were able to break the deadlock.
Sophomore keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) and Augustine finished the day with four saves each.
Philadelphia owned a 15-6 shot advantage over the course of the 110 minutes.
The Rams head back on the road for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at Felician on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
