Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore forwards Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each recorded a double-double for the Philadelphia University women's basketball team in a 75-71 loss to Kutztown in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon in the Gallagher Center.
Arnao tied a career-high with 20 points, on 8-of-10 shooting, and hauled down 10 rebounds. Heck contributed 11 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, and 11 rebounds—both career-highs.
The Rams (2-1) didn't travel until the Golden Bears (1-2) went on a 10-2 run, capped by a pair of Jess Harvey 3-pointers, to move ahead for the first time at 45-42 with 14:50 to go.
Trailing 48-44, Heck and sophomore guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) hit consecutive baskets to tie the contest up at 48 with 11:37 still to play. Kutztown answered the baskets with eight straight points to take a game-high 56-48 advantage.
The Rams, with the help of five points from junior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) fought their way back into contention with a 7-0 run to close within a point (68-67) at the 1:56 mark.
After a pair of 1-for-2 trips from the free throw line pushed the Kutztown lead back to three, Jacobs came through with a lay-up to close to margin to 70-69. That would be as close as Philadelphia would get as Kutztown went 5-for-6 at the line in the final 27 seconds.
Jacobs finished the contest with nine points.
Alyssa Bonenberger paced the Kutztown offense with a team-high 17 points. Nicole Donahue contributed 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Philadelphia shot 32-of-69 (46.4 percent) from the field, but just 1-of-10 from three. Kutztown hit 28 of its 71 attempts (39.4 percent), including 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) from 3-point range. The Golden Bears won the rebounding battle, 47-41.
Philadelphia has a week off before it heads to Molloy for a non-conference tilt on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m.
