Women's basketball knocked off by Molloy, 67-60

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded her third straight double-double in the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's 67-60 loss to host Molloy in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon in Quealy Gym.

Arnao was one of four Rams (2-2) to score in double-figures with 14 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Junior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) tied Arnao for the team lead in scoring with 14 points. Sophomore guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) went 9-of-12 at the free throw line on her way to 12 points. Junior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) added 11 points.

Philadelphia took a 5-4 lead on a Jacobs layup 1:55 into the contest. Led by a pair of Alexia O'Connor 3-point baskets, Molloy (3-2) went on a 14-4 run to jump ahead 18-9 at the 12:02 mark.

The Rams erased an 11-point deficit with 14 straight points to take a 30-27 advantage with 1:59 left in the half. Philadelphia went 7-for-7 at the free-throw line during the run.

Molloy ended the first half with a 7-1 surge to take a 34-31 lead at the break.

Philadelphia was able to regain a one-point lead (44-43) with 9:59 to go when Schacker made a put-back jumper.

After Arnao had a 1-for-2 trip to the charity stripe to extend the Philadelphia lead to 47-45, Molloy went on a 13-5 run—capped by a Sabrina Pardo trey—to take a 58-52 advantage with 1:52 to play.

The Rams cut the gap to 58-57 when senior guard Samantha Morris (Wenonah, N.J./Deptford) hit two free throws with 1:17 left, but the Lions put the game away with nine straight points.

Kimani Jackson, Padro, and O'Connor all had 11 points for the Lions.

Molloy shot 22-of-60 (36.7 percent) from the field, and 7-of-20 (35.0 percent) from 3-point range. The Rams shot 18-of-59 (30.5 percent), 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from three. Philadelphia won the rebounding battle, 47-45.

Philadelphia are off until after Thanksgiving when they head East Stroudsburg to compete in the two-day 49th Annual Pocono Classic. The Rams open the Classic against Saint Anselm on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m.
