Women's basketball upends Chestnut Hill, 65-53

PHILADELPHIA – Junior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) came off the bench to score a game and season-high 17 points in the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's 65-53 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rival Chestnut Hill Wednesday night in the Gallagher Center.

Sophomore guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) and sophomore forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each  added a double-double in the win. Young recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Arnao had 10 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the 2013-14 season.

The Rams (4-3, 2-0 CACC) scored nine unanswered points, five from Jacobs, to take a 13-7 advantage with 10:43 left in the opening half.

After the Griffins (1-5, 0-2 CACC) tied the game at 13 on an Aimee Bouie basket, the Rams outscored the visitors 19-4 over the final 6:49 to take a 32-17 halftime lead to the locker room. Jacobs led the charge with nine points.

Young opened the second half with five straight points to extend Philadelphia's cushion to 20 points (37-17) with 18:35 left to play. Junior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) knocked down a 3-pointer at the 9:25 mark to cap a 7-0 surge and give the Rams a game-high 22-point lead (58-36).

Olivia Gorczynski and Annie Farrow both scored 11 points for the Griffins. Farrow also grabbed seven rebounds.

Philadelphia shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the field, 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from three. Chestnut Hill connected on 33.3 percent (18-of-54) of its shots, 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from behind the arc.

The Rams grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds, 19 on the offensive end. Chestnut Hill had 31 rebounds.

Philadelphia welcomes Felician to the Gallagher Center for a CACC showdown on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.
