Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team scored 50 points in the second half, the most in a half this season, to storm past visiting Felician for an 84-58 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory Saturday afternoon in the Gallagher Center.
Junior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) scored 14 of her game-high 21 points in the second half for the Rams (5-3, 3-0 CACC). Junior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) finished the contest with 17 points, nine points coming after halftime.
Sophomore forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop) recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. Senior guard Megan Finn (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) filled out the box score with 11 points, six assists, and a career-high four steals. Sophomore forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) added a career-best 11 points and eight rebounds.
Philadelphia faced a 48-41 deficit with 15:39 left in the contest after Felician (1-8, 1-3 CACC) eight straight points.
The Rams would then find their offensive flow and played stifling defense to outscore the Golden Falcons 26-2 over a 9:12 stretch to game a 67-50 lead. Five different Philadelphia players score, led by nine from Jacobs and seven from Schacker, during the surge—which had the team shoot 9-of-13 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line. Defensively, the Rams forced the Golden Falcons into eight turnovers and 1-of-14 shooting.
Freshman forward Regan Marriner (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) hit a lay-up with 31 seconds left to score the final points of the game and give the Rams their largest advantage of the game.
Philadelphia shot 61.3 percent (19-of-31) in the final 20 minutes, the best the team has shot in any half this year.
The first half was a tight affair as the score was tied nine teams and the teams traded the lead on eight occasions. Felician owned the largest lead in the half when Trina Plummer connected on a put-back lay-up with two seconds on the clock to make the score 37-31. Finn ended the half with a successful three-point from mid-court.
Ashley Morris led the Golden Falcons with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Plummer finished the day with 15 points and five boards.
The Rams ended up shooting 46.2 percent (30-of-65) from the floor and 67.9 percent (19-of-28) at the line. The Golden Falcons connected at a 37.9 percent (22-of-58) clip and were 71.4 percent (10-of-14) shooting team at the free throw line.
Philadelphia outrebounded Felician, 42-37.
The Rams hit the road to take on Holy Family, the defending CACC champion, in a conference match on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center.
