Men's tennis sweeps Dowling in non-conference play, 9-0

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 non-conference victory over visiting Dowling Saturday afternoon on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts.

Philadelphia improves to 4-7 overall, while Dowling drops to 0-2.

Dylan Bhaerman (Columbus, Ohio/Pickering North) and Long Vo (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) got the Rams off to a solid start with an 8-1 win over Mark Lewis and Mike Pesslano in the No. 3 doubles match. Kyle Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingston) and Chris Casamassima (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Mary's) teamed up for an 8-0 victory in the No. 2 match against Brendan Sullivan and Derek Wells. The No. 1 tandem of Ayman Barakat (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Kharkiv Specialized English School #3) and Nail Rachidi (Meknes, Morocco/Emile Anouar) was victorious by an 8-6 score over Francisco Del Castillo and Sardorjan Mamadjanov.

Bhaerman, Casamassima, and Vo all earned 6-0, 6-0 victories in their respective singles matches. Rachidi knocked off Wells in the No. 3 singles match, 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 2 match, Barakat was a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) victor against Del Castillo. After dropping the first set 6-2 against Mamadjanov, Burke fought back to complete the sweep by winning the final two sets 7-5, 1-0 (10-5).

Philadelphia begins Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a match at the University of the Sciences on Wednesday, March 27 at 3 p.m.
