Women's volleyball ends season with 3-0 loss to Post in CACC Tournament

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team had its 2014 season come to a close with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23) loss to Post in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Tuesday night in the Drubner Center.

Philadelphia—who was in the tournament for the ninth straight season—ends the year with an overall record of 15-15. Post is now 20-10 and advances to the semifinal round of the conference tournament on Friday, Nov. 14.

In her final collegiate match, middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) led the Rams with nine kills. Outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) recorded six kills and 12 digs.

Setter Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil's Academy) had 13 assists, while libero Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) paced the defense with a match-high 17 digs.

The Eagles got off to a fast start, scoring seven of the match's first nine points. Philadelphia closed the gap to 10-9 with a 7-3 surge, capped by a kill from middle hitter Corinne Justus (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus). Post wasted no time regaining a four-point lead (13-9) with three straight points. The Rams would get as close as 17-15 the rest of the way on a Justus kill. The Eagles closed out the set with an 8-2 run.

Philadelphia took early control of set two, getting out to a 9-4 lead. Lyman had three kills during the run. After the Rams reclaimed a 17-14 advantage on a Lyman and Justus block, the Eagles rallied with 11 of the final 14 points of the set, including three Nicole Brown kills, to win the set and take a 2-0 match lead.

After Philadelphia scored the first point of the final set, Post—with the help of three Skylar German kills—picked up four straight points to take a 4-1 lead. Lyman sparked a 5-1 Ram run that erased the Eagles' four-point lead and tied the set at 17. Post regained the lead with three consecutive points. The Rams got as close as 24-23 on a service error. The Eagles won the match on a Brown kill, her 12th of the night.

German led Post with 14 kills and 10 digs. Emily Wilman added 12 kills
