Box Score WILMINGTON, Del. – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team earned its fourth straight victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating host Goldey-Beacom 75-65 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tilt in the Jones Center.
Guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) had a phenomenal afternoon from the charity stripe, hitting 15 of her 16 attempts, on her way to 19 points. She also added nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) tallied 17 points, 13 rebounds and two steals to record her fourth double-double in the last five outings.
Guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy), who finished with 12 points, knocked down a 3-pointer at the 4:16 mark to spark a 13-5 run that gave the Rams (8-1, 4-1 CACC) a 37-30 halftime advantage.
Goldey-Beacom (4-9, 3-2 CACC) opened the second half with 10 of the first 14 points to trim the Philadelphia lead to 41-40 on a Lexi Bruno basket with 14:22 left.
After a timeout, the Rams responded with an Arnao layup and three-point play from forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) to reestablish a six-point cushion at 46-40. The lead hit double figures for the first time when Young drained two free throws at the 8:41 mark to make it a 58-48 affair.
Goldey-Beacom wouldn't get any closer than six the rest of the way.
The Lightning kicked off the contest by shooting 4-of-5 from the field to take an early 10-2 lead. Philadelphia, with the help of five Young points, scored 13 points in a row to move in front 15-10.
Bruno paced Goldey-Beacom with a game-high 20 points. Jasmyne Lewis added 12 points, while Lillian Chukwueze had 11 points.
Philadelphia closes out the 2014 portion of its schedule with a New Year's Eve clash against East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.
