Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team saw its 2013-14 come to an end with an 81-52 loss to host Caldwell in the semifinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Friday evening.
The Rams finish with a 20-8 overall record. Philadelphia won the southern division for the first time, recorded its first 20-win season since the 2011-12 campaign, and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament for the first time since 2009.
Sophomore forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) paced the Rams with 11 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy), sophomore guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter), and sophomore forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) added eight points each.
Emily Caswell led Caldwell (18-10) with a career-high 31 points, on 12-of-15 shooting, and eight rebounds. Alyssa James and Jeanette Anderson contributed 15 points apiece in the win.
The teams traded the lead three times in the opening 3:20 seconds. After senior guard Megan Finn (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) hit two free throws to put the Rams up 7-6, the Cougars scored seven straight to take a 13-7 lead on a James layup at the 15:10 mark.
Jacobs and Arnao connected on consecutive baskets to cut the Caldwell advantage to 21-18 with 11:33 left in the half. Caldwell answered with nine of the next 11 points to take its first double-digit lead of the game (30-20) on a Nicole Angelo 3-pointer.
Philadelphia got as close at 32-24 on two Jacobs free throws with 6:22 to go in the first half.
In the second half, the Rams scored eight straight points to cut a 20-point deficit to 12 (47-35) on a Schacker trey from the right wing at the 16:10 mark.
Caldwell shot 60.4 percent (32-of-53) from the field, while Philadelphia hit 39.6 percent (21-of-53) of its shots.
