PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's tennis team had its six-match winning streak come to an end with a 5-4 loss to No. 35 Concordia (N.Y.) on the Abraham Salaman Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.
Philadelphia is now 6-1 overall, 3-1 in the CACC, while Concordia improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The Rams' No. 3 doubles tandem of Jala Hamada (Giza, Egypt/Dar El-Tarbia, IGCSE) and Anna Slomowitz (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) earned the team's first point of the match with an 8-5 triumph over Valeriia Cheban and Nicole Stuhr. Hamada and Slomowitz are now 3-0 as a doubles team.
Trailing 4-1, Philadelphia got back in the match with singles victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles. In the No. 3 match, Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) defeated Alla Kravchuk 6-2, 6-4. Slomowitz claimed the No. 6 flight against Stuhr by a 6-3, 6-1 score.
The Clippers secured the match when Linda Eliasson defeated Anna Kudriavtceva (Yekateinburg, Russia/Grammar School No. 13) in the No. 2 match 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).
Hamada ended the afternoon by rallying from one set down to knock off Cheban 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 flight.
Philadelphia heads to Le Moyne for a non-conference match on Friday, Sept. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
