Box Score WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) drained a career-high six 3-pointers on her way to a season-high 20 points in the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's 72-62 loss to non-conference opponent West Chester Tuesday night in Hollinger Fieldhouse.
Forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) contributed 13 points and eight rebounds, while forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had 10 points and eight boards.
Guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) and forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) each recorded eight points and nine rebounds.
Schacker's first made 3-pointer of the game gave Philadelphia (11-3) a 5-4 advantage at the 17:21 mark.
On West Chester's (12-3) next possession, Anna Kuntz hit a layup and sparked a run of 11 straight Golden Ram points to put the home team ahead 15-5. West Chester shot 4-of-8 from the field during the 3:41 span, while Philadelphia was 0-of-5 and committed two turnovers.
Philadelphia chipped away at its deficit during the middle stages of the first half, and was able to regain the lead at 28-26 when Young hit a layup with 3:57 remaining. Schacker drained her fifth 3-pointer of the first half at the 3:19 mark to push the lead up to 31-26.
West Chester scored the final five points of the half to send the teams to the halftime break tied at 31.
With the game tied at 40, West Chester took control of the contest with a 12-2 run, which included five points each from Brittany Sicinski and Porscha Speller, to grab a 52-42 advantage.
Back-to-back layups from Arnao and Heck pulled Philadelphia within 52-46. However, Sicinski answered with consecutive layups of her own to allow West Chester to regain a 10-point lead (56-46).
The Rams were able to get as close as seven when a Newell layup made the score 60-53 with 6:10 left.
Sicinski led West Chester with 19 points, on 7-of-13 shooting, seven assists, and five steals. Chikish Steele-Hook pitched in with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Philadelphia welcomes Dominican (N.Y.) to the Gallagher Center for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Sunday, Jan 18 at 1 p.m. The Rams are 6-0 at home this season.
