Schacker gets career high in 82-73 loss to Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA – Senior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) poured in a career-high 26 points for the Philadelphia University women's basketball team in an 82-73 loss to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Chestnut Hill Tuesday night in Sorgenti Arena.

Philadelphia's overall record is now 16-5, 10-3 against the CACC. The Rams have dropped their last three road contests.

Chestnut Hill, a winner of back-to-back games for the first time this season, improves to 8-14 overall, 6-9 in conference play. The win is the first for the Griffins over the Rams in 19 attempts.

Senior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) contributed 18 points, while junior guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) added 14 points and five rebounds.

Junior forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added nine points, 12 rebounds, five steals, four assists, and one blocked shot.

With the help of two Brianne Morgera layups, Chestnut Hill got out to a 6-0 lead in the game's opening 3:32. The Griffins remained in front until Schacker capped a 7-2 run with a 3-pointer at the 8:14 mark to tie the score at 16

After junior forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) knotted the game at 18, the Griffins caught fire, hitting seven of their next eight shots, to go on a 17-2 surge to move in front 35-20 on a Nicole Parriski layup with 1:27 left in the half. Parriski seven of her 12 points during the run to lead the Griffins. Philadelphia shot 1-of-9 from the field and turned the ball over twice.

The Rams were strong at the start of the second half, scoring 14 of the first 18 points to close the gap to 41-37 on a Young three-point play. Philadelphia shot 5-of-9 from the floor in the opening 4:02.  Young had eight of the 14 points.

Tiffany Turner took the game over for Chestnut Hill, recorded 11 of the team's next 13 points in a 13-4 run that put that Griffins ahead by a 54-42 score.

Philadelphia made a late push to get as close as five (73-68) on a Schacker triple with 1:31 on the clock. The Griffins held the Rams off by shooting 9-of-10 from the free throw the rest of the way.

Turner paced the Griffins with 26 points, on 11-of-14 shooting, 17 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Shayla Felder shot 6-of-12 from the floor to finish with 20 points. Tenisha Townsend-Mobley added 14 points.

Chestnut Hill connected on 57.9 percent (33-of-57) of its shots, while Philadelphia shot 33.3 percent (25-of-75).

Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center to face Holy Family in a CACC contest on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.
