Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team ends its regular season with an 82-73 loss to Goldey-Beacom in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.
Philadelphia finishes the season with a 20-8 overall mark and a 14-5 record in CACC play. The Rams are the second seed from the southern division, and will host Dominican, the northern division three seed, in a CACC Tournament quarterfinal round showdown on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.
Senior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy), and junior forwards Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) all contributed 16 points for the Rams.
Schacker hit a 3-pointer with 4:20 left in the opening half to record her 1,000th point as a member of the Rams. She now has 1,131 career points—123 coming at the University of New Haven as a freshman.
Senior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) added 14 points.
Philadelphia opened up a game-high 17-point cushion when Schacker converted a three-point play with 16:47 left in the contest. Then, Goldey-Beacom (13-15, 12-7 CACC) caught fire, hitting 11 of its next 16 shot attempts to outscore Philadelphia 30-12 over a 9:14 stretch to take a 60-59 lead—its first of the game. Lillian Chukwueze and Lexi Bruno each had nine points during the run.
On the Rams' first possession after the run, Jacobs made a layup and free throw to put the home team back in front 62-60. With Philadelphia holding on to a 68-67 lead, Goldey-Beacom heated up once again, knocking down four straight baskets from the field and two free throws to move ahead 78-70.
The Rams started the game off by scoring 15 straight points in a 4:59. Heck led the charge with six points, while Schacker poured in five. Defensively, the Rams forced the Lightning to miss their first 12 shots. Goldey-Beacom trimmed the lead to 21-17 when Britani Bryson capped a 13-4 run with a jumper at the 10:03 mark. Philadelphia came right back with 14 of the next 18 points to get out to a 35-21 advantage.
Chukwueze paced Goldey-Beacom with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Bruno added 17 points and 10 assists. Miklia Stefanski contributed 13 points.
Philadelphia shot 47.8 percent (33-of-69) from the floor, while Goldey-Beacom hit 44.8 percent (30-of-67) of its shots. In the second half, the Lightning shot 63.3 percent (19-of-30).
