Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team had four players score in double figures while shooting 46 percent (29-63) from the floor on its way to an 83-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over visiting Post IN the Gallagher Center Saturday afternoon.
Guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) scored a team-best 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four assists for the Rams (16-4, 10-2 CACC), and scored the 1,000th point of her collegiate career when she drained a three that put Philadelphia up 20-13 midway through the first half, capping and 8-0 run that put the Rams in the lead for good.
Guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) poured in 17 points with five rebounds and four assists for the Rams, while forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./ Archbishop Wood) registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) also scored 12 points coming off the bench.
The Rams were up by just four after Eagles (5-18, 5-9 CACC) guard Dericka Sims knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 25-21 with 7:06 remaining in the opening frame, but the Rams managed to pull away in those final seven minutes, outscoring Post 22-12 during that span to open a 47-33 lead at the half. The Rams led by as many as 21 following a layup from Newell that made it 66-45 with 9:47 left in the contest.
Guard Toni Deren scored a game-high 19 points to go with five rebounds for the Eagles, while guard Nicole Viselli added 13 points with three rebounds and four assists. Guard Lexus Childs-Harris was held to just 10 points while playing in foul trouble for most of the game.
Philadelphia dominated the game inside, outscoring Post 46-20 in the paint, and had a 20-10 advantage in points off turnovers. The Eagles was held to 33.3 percent (22-66) shooting from the floor and 39.1 percent (9-23) from three-point range.
The Rams will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Chestnut Hill University for a 6 p.m. CACC contest.
