Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – All 11 players on the Philadelphia University women's basketball team's roster got into the scoring act as the Rams cruised to an 87-42 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Post University Friday afternoon in the Drubner Center.
With the win, Philadelphia—who never trailed in the contest—improves to 15-5 overall and remains undefeated against the conference at 11-0. The Rams also extended their winning streak to nine. The 45-point margin of victory is Philadelphia's largest victory since defeating Concordia (N.Y.) 100-51 on Feb. 4, 2012.
Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) was the Rams' leading scorer in Friday's victory with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting in 23 minutes of action. She added four steals and three assists.
Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) both recorded a double-double. Arnao racked up 16 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks for her 13th double-double of the season. Newell had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists to record her seventh double-double.
Kelsey Jones (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Academy) knocked down three 3-pointers in 13 minutes to score a career-best 11 points.
The Rams shot a season-high 53.0 percent (35-of-66) from the field. It was the second time this season that Philadelphia hit at least 50 percent of its shots.
After holding Goldey-Beacom to four points in fourth quarter of Wednesday night's victory, Philadelphia turned in another tremendous defensive effort in the first quarter of Friday's game to lead 19-4 after 10 minutes. The Rams forced the Eagles (0-18, 0-9 CACC) into 12 turnovers and 2-of-9 shooting. Offensively, Young scored nine points, while Arnao poured in seven.
The second quarter was all about Philadelphia's offense as the Rams—who got six points each from Rachel Day (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Newell, and Jones—shot 61.1 percent (11-18) from the floor to score 28 points, tying their season-high for points in a quarter. The Rams led 47-16 at the half.
After extending the lead to 71-30 through three, Philadelphia's advantage grew to a game-high 47 points (87-40) on a Valez Jackson (Yeadon, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) layup with 1:06 left in the game.
Lexus Childs-Harris and Jovan Kingwood paced the Eagles with seven points each.
The Eagles finished the game shooting 31.8 percent (14-of-44) overall, 0-9 from 3-point range.
Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center to face Wilmington (Del.) in a CACC battle on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. It will be the Rams' first home game since Jan. 9.
