PHILADELPHIA - Former Thomas Jefferson University baseball star Bob File, a 2004 Jefferson Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, is this week's guest on KYW Newsradio's 1-on-1 With Matt Leon.
On the podcast, File discusses his baseball career and how he went from the Rams to the major leagues. A three-time All-New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) selection, File was named the conference's Player of the Year in 1998, where he also garnered All-American First-Team recognition. As a senior, he set numerous single-season records for the program including batting average (.542), hits (90), runs (63), runs batted in (68), home runs (19) and total bases (167). He holds all-time program career records for batting average (.416), slugging percentage (.687), at bats (712), runs (181), runs batted in (198), hits (296) and triples (17). File also sat atop the Rams' home run leaderboard for 20 years with 37 career home runs, a feat that was broken in 2018. File was drafted in the 1998 MLB Amateur Entry Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 19th round (561st overall) and went on to appear in three seasons for the Blue Jays with 89 appearances across 111.1 innings. File is one of just four former Rams to have his jersey retired by the school.
Started in 2019, 1-on-1 With Matt Leon explores the untold stories of the Philadelphia sports scene with the people who make it interesting: players, coaches, media members, historians, and more. File is the second guest with Jefferson ties to join the podcast, following Assistant Vice President for Athletics/Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tom Shirley.
