Women's Soccer Bested By Saint Rose In NCAA First Round

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team (11-7-1) had its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss at sixth-ranked Saint Rose (18-0-3) in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Friday. The Golden Knights are the top seed in the East Region while the Rams were seeded eighth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams put a shot on target in the opening 15 minutes and they were stopped by the goalkeepers. Saint Rose then found the back of the net in the 16th minute for a 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights converted in front of the goal off a pass from the right side of the box. The Rams then recorded the next four shots of the game, including a free kick that was knocked over the crossbar by the goalkeeper, but could not answer.

Saint Rose countered and made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute, scoring their goals on back-to-back shots. The Golden Knights cleared the ball up the field and 2021 All-American Mia Klammer beat the defense back to the ball and put a shot off the right post and in. Jefferson got off one more shot in the half but it was corralled by the keeper.

The second half was less than five minutes old when Klammer struck again. She won another foot race to a loose ball and tapped it past a charging Jaclyn Martino to increase the Saint Rose advantage to three in the 50th minute. The Rams recorded four shots in the second period but all were off frame.
