PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (4-0) got out to an early lead and went on to defeat Kutztown (1-3), 70-53, in non-conference action on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams scored the first four points and 11 of the initial 15 of the game for an 11-4 lead with 4:33 left in the opening quarter. Four different players tallied points for Jefferson during the stretch. The Golden Bears were within six (13-7) before
Emily Keehfuss drilled a pair of three-pointers to up the margin to 12 (19-7). Kutztown made a layup to make it a 10-point difference entering the second.
The Golden Bears posted the opening four points of the second period to get within six again (19-13). The Rams then went on an 8-1 run and gained a 13-point cushion (27-14) with 5:24 remaining.

Sam Yencha poured in four points apiece. Kutztown managed to cut the deficit to eight (37-29) at the intermission.
Jefferson began the second half with a 9-2 spurt to bring the margin to 15 (46-31). Three different Rams contributed to the run. Jefferson maintained the double-digit lead until the Golden Bears ended the frame with five straight points to come within nine (50-41) going to the fourth.
Jefferson started the final quarter with four points to put the advantage in double-digits again. After a three by both teams, a Kutztown jumper made it 57-46 with 7:43 to go. The Rams then scored seven of the next 10 to increase their lead to 15 (64-49) with 2:52 left, putting the game out of reach.
