PHILADELPHIA – The #24/18 Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (12-1, 4-0 CACC) won its seventh straight game with a 90-63 triumph over visiting Felician (5-4, 2-2 CACC) on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams got off to a 9-0 start within the opening two minutes of the contest. All five Jefferson starters scored during the stretch. After the Golden Falcons netted seven of the next nine to get within four (11-7), the Rams tallied 10 in a row to make it 21-7 with 3:41 on the clock.
Haley Meinel's layup at the 2:23 mark upped Jefferson's lead to 16 (27-11) and also put her over the 1,000-point milestone for her career. The Rams had a 15-point cushion (33-18) entering the second.
In the second quarter, Felician closed the gap to 12 (37-25) but Jefferson followed with a 9-0 run to increase the difference to 21 (46-25) with 4:28 left. Meinel posted five of the nine points.
Cassie Murphy beat the buzzer with a jumper to end the period and give the Rams a 56-34 advantage at halftime. Jefferson continued to wear down the Golden Falcons in the third, recording 18 of the first 26 points in the frame to up the margin to 32 (74-42). The Rams led by at least 25 the rest of the way.
