Women's Basketball Wins Regular Season Finale At Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA - The Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (21-7, 13-5 CACC) finished the regular season with a 74-67 victory at Holy Family on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Rams are the third seed in the South Division for next week's conference tournament. Jefferson travels to the North Division's second seed, Felician, for a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m.
 
GAMEPLAY
Jefferson led by one (7-6) early in the contest before increasing the margin to five (11-6) with a pair of free throws and a layup. The Tigers answered with five in a row to even the score at 11. Holy Family was in front 16-15 but the Rams ended the period with an 8-0 run to lead 23-16.
 
In the second, Jefferson maintained a five-point advantage (28-23). The Rams then upped their cushion to 15 (38-23) with a 10-0 surge. Haley Meinel and Cassie Murphy each scored four points during the stretch. Holy Family trailed by 13 (40-27) but got back into it with an 11-0 run to end the half, cutting the deficit to two (40-38).
 
Jefferson got off to a hot start in the third quarter, netting nine straight points to open up a 49-38 advantage. Emily Keehfuss led the way with nine points. The Tigers closed to within six (49-43) but Sam Yencha tallied six straight points for the Rams to up the margin to 12 (55-43) with 2:04 left in the period. Holy Family decreased the deficit to eight (57-49) entering the fourth.
 
In the fourth, Jefferson made the first bucket for a 59-49 lead. The Tigers roared back with a 7-0 run to get within three (59-56) with 7:45 remaining. Holy Family was behind by two (61-59) with 6:35 left but the Rams created some separation with eight consecutive points to make it 69-59 with 3:51 to play. Murphy netted six of the eight points. The Tigers closed the gap to four (71-67) with 1:00 to go but missed their final three shots as Jefferson sealed the win at the foul line.
