Women's Basketball Bested By USciences In CACC Championship Game, Await Potential NCAA Bid

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (23-8) came up short in the CACC Championship Game on Sunday, falling to USciences by a 53-44 score.
 
The Rams will await a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. The selection show will air on NCAA.com on Sunday night at 10 p.m.
 
GAMEPLAY
The teams were even at four in the opening quarter when the Devils went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-4 lead with 1:46 on the clock. Jefferson closed the gap to four (13-9) entering the second.
 
After a jumper by Haley Meinel got the Rams within two (13-11), USciences tallied five in a row to restore a seven-point advantage (18-11). However, Jefferson followed with 11 of the next 13 to go ahead 22-20 with 4:45 remaining in the period. The Devils then closed the half with a 7-0 surge to lead 27-22 at the intermission.
 
Meinel made two free throws to cut the Jefferson deficit to three (27-24) to begin the third quarter. USciences then opened it up with a 10-0 run to up the margin to 13 (37-24) with 4:44 to go. The Rams were able to narrow the gap to seven (41-34) at the end of the frame.
 
The Devils netted the first five points of the fourth to go up by 11 (45-34) with 5:02 left. Jefferson got back into it with six straight points to trail by five (45-40) with 3:33 remaining. It was the closest the Rams would get however, as they made just one shot from the field the rest of the way.
