PHILADELPHIA – The #19 Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (15-2, 7-0 CACC) used a 30-9 second quarter to pull away from visiting Bloomfield (1-15, 0-7 CACC) en route to a 76-56 victory on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams went back and forth in the first five minutes of the contest. The Bears had a 9-8 advantage before the Rams took over with eight straight points to go ahead 16-9 with 3:11 left in the opening quarter. Bloomfield had the last five points of the period and trailed 16-14 entering the second.
Jefferson had the first basket of the second to make the score 18-14. The Bears came back with five in a row to take a 19-18 advantage. The Rams then went off on a 28-4 run over the rest of the period, including streaks of 9-0, 7-0, and 12-0, for a commanding 46-23 halftime lead. Jefferson shot 54.5% (12-of-22) during the frame and held Bloomfield to just 20.0% shooting (2-of-10).
The Bears were unable to get back in the game as the Rams led by at least 20 for the majority of the second half. Jefferson's largest lead was 33 (66-33) in the third quarter.
