#20/9 Women's Basketball Makes Strong First Half Hold Up for Victory at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The #20/9 Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (18-3, 10-1 CACC) outscored Dominican (12-9, 7-4 CACC), 44-21, in the first half and went on to a 73-58 victory at the Chargers on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams were even at six in the opening quarter. The Rams then went on a 17-4 run over the rest of the period to lead 23-10. Five different players contributed to the stretch. After a Dominican layup to begin the second, Jefferson tallied five in a row to up the margin to 16 (28-12) with 8:09 on the clock.
 
The difference was 16 (36-20) with 4:06 left before the Rams pulled away with an 8-0 surge to make it 44-20. The Chargers' converted a free throw to make the halftime score 44-21. Jefferson shot 53.8% (21-of-39) over the first two quarters and limited Dominican to just 28.6% (8-of-28).
 
The Rams started the third quarter with a 10-3 run for their largest lead of the game at 30 (54-24) with 5:58 remaining. However, the Chargers cut the deficit in half with a 16-1 surge and the score was 55-40 at the 1:08 mark. It was 56-41 entering the final period. Jefferson stopped the Dominican rally and kept the margin over double digits for the entirety of the fourth.
