#19/11 Women's Basketball Routs East Stroudsburg for Fifth Straight Win
PHILADELPHIA – The #19/11 Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team held the Warriors to 32.1% shooting on the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc while
Sam Yencha recorded her second straight double double of the season as the Rams would go on a 73-48 victory over East Stroudsburg University (2-2) to win five in a row and remain undefeated.
WHAT HAPPENED
Jefferson went ahead 8-3 early on as
Cassie Murphy,
Sam Yencha,
Emma Kuczynski, and
Haley Meinel all scored to put the Rams ahead. The Warriors would make two free throws and a jumper to cut the lead to 10-7 before the Rams finished the first quarter on a 11-2 run as Yencha ended the first quarter with six of her 12 points to get Jefferson into the second quarter up 21-9.
The Rams would score nine straight points to begin the second as
Emily Keehfuss had five to begin the quarter with a three pointer and two free throws.
Morgan Robinson had six points in the quarter. The Rams would force seven of the Warriors 16 turnovers in this quarter, eventually leading the Rams to head into the break up 38-17.
Meinel would add a three pointer and two free throws in the beginning of the third quarter, giving her five of her team-leading 15 points on the day. Murphy had a layup and two converted free throws to have it 49-19 over East Stroudsburg. The Rams would outscore the Warriors 23-9 in this period, with their bench coming into the game as
Kaya Burkhart added a basket before the end of the quarter with Jefferson leading 61-26.
East Stroudsburg would outscore Jefferson in the fourth 22-12, shooting 7-of-12 on the field and 8-8 at the free throw line. The Warriors cut the lead to 64-38 before Burkhart,
Tori Nigro, and Kuczynski would score as the Rams would hold onto their lead in the fourth and walk away with a 73-48 win.
