Big Second Quarter Helps #19/12 Women's Basketball To Rout of Wilmington

PHILADELPHIA – The #19/12 Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (21-3, 12-1 CACC) used a 25-4 second quarter to pull away and defeat Wilmington (2-20, 1-11 CACC) by a 70-33 score on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams went back and forth early and the Rams trailed 9-8 with 4:22 left in the opening quarter. Jefferson then went on a 14-2 run to close the period and take a 22-11 lead into the second. Emma Kuczynski, Haley Meinel, and Cassie Murphy each posted four points during the stretch.
 
After the Wildcats began the second with a jumper, the Rams rattled off 17 points in a row for a 39-13 advantage. Meinel led the way with six points and Emily Keehfuss had five. Wilmington broke the streak with a layup at the 3:12 mark but Jefferson followed with the last eight points of the half for a 47-15 lead at the intermission. The difference stayed above 30 for the rest of the contest.

Jefferson sits in first place in the CACC South Division with a one-game lead over Holy Family and four contests remaining in the regular season. The Rams have already locked up a playoff spot. Jefferson's magic number to secure a home game for the quarterfinal round is down to three.
